Building your toddler's math skills can be fun and easy to do. There are simple activities that you can do every day that will help your toddler to learn the math skills that they’ll need as they get older. Even the simplest activity can be the foundation for learning that your toddler needs to succeed. Mathematics is an important life skill and the earlier that a child learns it the better they will do in the long run.
Matching Number Games
This should be without question the easiest and most common type of game that you can play with your toddler. Matching numbers games don’t take a lot of work all you need are number magnets or cutouts. Taking the numbers one by one you can teach your toddler how to match them as well as do beginner addition and subtraction.
Counting Songs
Singing is something that children can relate to early on, and it embodies the art of learning. Children react to singing in a way that most other types of learning just can’t compare to. Likewise, there are many different ways of incorporating song and dance into your day and your kids won’t even be able to tell the difference.
Pattern Games
One of the beauties of learning how to count is the fact that you don’t necessarily have to use numbers. You can also use patterns and shapes to count as well, which is a lot more fun than just using plain old numbers. Children can enjoy the benefits of learning how to count while also being able to match up to their favorite shapes. These games are fun and don’t take a lot of effort to do which makes them an easy learning tool.
Tracing Numbers
Tracing is another way that you can mix art and learning all in one package. The result is a great way that your toddler can use tracing to count. Whether this is with a numbered coloring sheet or lining up various numbers on a drawing pad. The process is something that can be fun to learn and entertaining at the same time. Toddlers love to count and draw at the same time which makes using the tracing method an excellent way to learn.
Learning Shapes
Shaped number blocks are also an excellent way to learn how to count. You can help your toddler to put the blocks together while also singing and counting at the same time. The result is entertaining and fun at the same time. Wooden number shapes are the best, as these blocks give the most detailed read-out for a toddler. But you can also use old-fashioned wooden blocks as well with numbers painted on them.
